Trying to recover allocation unit???

Im trying to format my old laptop hard drive and this is what it sais.. Trying to recover allocation unit "xxxx"... it started at 3000 and is now at 9000 ... it took like 6 hours so far.

i think the hard drive was exposed to magnets for a while.. is the hard drive scrap or will this finish and everythin be ok?
