I have a mic plugged into my computer and I don't know how to get it working :/ Simple as that really. I'm running ALSA on 2.6.9 on Debian unstable. Can anyone give me things I should check? Everything looks good in alsamixer.

Hi Bumpy Carrot, welcome to lq. What sound card do you have? Have you checked to ensure that the mic is plugged into the proper jack? What apps have you tried using?
good luck.
My card's an Ensoniq ES1371 [AudioPCI-97]. It's definitely plugged into the right jack. So far I've tried using gaim-vv (uses linphone to talk to MSN users) and krec, neither of which seemed successful.
Does anyone know of a good program to test this with? Currently I'm using krec, which uses arts of course so perhaps it's not the best testbed. It could be working and that I simply don't know it.
Thanks buddy, Audacity was able to record from the mic Now I just need to talk to the peeps involved with linphone/gaim-vv to see what I need to do. I suspect now it's just a case of using siproxd to get past the NAT.
