Trouble installing SuSE9 because of low RAM
I am trying to install SuSE9 onto a hand-me down computer that
is from Dell (OptiPlex GX1) with a 450MHZ Intel CPU with a 15 GB
HD and 256MB of RAM...I have installed this OS on similiar machine
with no problem.
I have five floppies that are used in conjuction with the five CD's...
the floppies are obviously needed to start the install. Under
normal installs I would use floppy 1,2 and 4 and then the CD's
come into play. I insert floppy one (with CD#1 in the drv)
and when my machine comes up the following error message appears:
"It appears your computer has less than 512K of low (DOS) RAM.
Linux needs at least this amount to boot. If you get this message
in error, hold down the CTRL while booting.
Boot Failed."
I have tried the CTRL key as suggested but when
the install starts to run it freeze's up...as if there isnt enough
room to read the disk.
With 256MB of RAM I dont understand why I'm getting this error.
Being that this machine is a DELL could they have hard-wired
(so to speak) certain drivers into low memory and that is what
is taking up the necessary space Linux needs? I really am not
sure what to do to fix this...thoughts please???...thanks in advance.
