So, I'm trying to install Gentoo on this fairly old Mac. I had to download kernel sources from kernel.org instead of emerging them because I haven't hooked the Mac up to the Internet yet. This way I could download it on another machine and then move it to the Mac. Anyway, to cut to the chase, when I try to boot I get this error message:
Code:
No filesystem could mount root, tried: reiserfs ext3 ext2 iso9660 hfsplus fuseblk udf
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to umount root fs on unknown block(3,68)
My / partition is formatted with reiserfs. I'm pretty sure the partition is not corrupted because I can mount it from the live CD. Before the error comes up, it shows me a list of all of the partitions on all of the hard disks, so I know that the SCSI/SATA/whatever drivers are compiled in properly. I compiled in reiserfs as well, which I suppose is evident since apparently the computer tries to mount root with it.
What looks suspicious to me is the reference to 3,68. I have no idea where either of those numbers come from, and it seems to be the only thing that could have gone wrong. Perhaps my yaboot.conf will provide some insight:
Code:
boot=/dev/hdb2
device=/pci@f20000000/pci-bridge@d/mac-io@7/ata-4@1f000/disk@1:
partition=4
root=/dev/hdb4
timeout=30
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label=Linux
read-only
initrd=/boot/vmlinuz.img
initrd-size=8192
So, does anyone have any idea what's gone wrong?
Thank you very much for your time.
