trouble booting SuSE 10.0!!
ok so here is my problim... iv downloaded Linux SuSE 10.0 OSS off of a linux site, so i figured it would be good (also downloaded many .torrent files with the same problim) and after i get it downloaded i cant seem to boot it. it says its an ISO file, and iv read many different fourms on writing ISO's (as bootable), but none will boot. iv also tried ever comeputer i could get my hands on! like i said iv downloaded many different versions, and really want to try Linux (im a poor windows user, sad, i know). after messing up about 30 disks i finaly figured if i put the CD's on alcohol 120%, then i could at least see if it booted from there, no luck. all that comes up is a window with all the files in it, as if i was exploring it... im soo lost now
as i said iv read for weeks now on how to get it to boot and looked at all the files in there (and tho i know nothing of Linux yet) i didnt know what the boot file would look like.. any info would be nice...
if this helps...
in the main folder on the first disk the files are:
Folder:
boot
docu
dosutils
media.1
ppc
suse
suseboot
Files:
change long
content
copying
copying.de
copyright
copyright.de
directory.yast
iseries
liesmich
pubring.gpd
readme
trans.trb
RAR:
archives
index
is-ir
thats all in the main folder, i also planed on bouble booting with XP witch i currently have on(only want to use it for gaming), i all ready made a spot on my HD for Linux
to date i have not found anyone with this kinda problim, and highly doubt its just a bad download, as i have download about 5 different copyes, all linux SuSE 10.0 OSS, with 5 'ISO' files, im completly lost here, and worst off i have no time to mess with this for the weekend (work *rolls eyes*) so if i dont respond this weekend you knwo why (12/16/05)
AS i am new i dont know all that tecnical Linux jiber-jaber so plain terms would be just fine for me...
i do not want to have to resort to buying a linux CD, i would much rather download and write...
thanks in advance!

How are you burning the ISO files? Which CD burning software are you using?

First off, are you sure this is an official ISO.
Second, use Nero to burn a "Disk Image or Saved Project". You might just be 'copying' the ISO onto the disk, which doesn't work (I think), since an ISO file is a disk image?
Third, when you read the burnt CD, you should see the files you listed above and not a single file '.ISO'

ok, i thinkthis is an official iso... i went to this site (w w w.opensuse.org/Download) and scroled down and saved the SUSE linux OSS and downloaded it as a .torrent... so i hope it would be official....
next i tried rewriting it like you said.. no luck...
and i know when i view the files i should see that, but i cant get it too boot at all... if i mount it in anything then load it the view window comes up, if i restart my computer with the CD in (and make sure it loads first from the CD drive) the just pauses for a little while and i can hear the CD spinning... but it just boots up normaly into windows... im lost... ill try downloading another ISO this week and see what happens with it...

You need to change your BIOS settings. Right now it is configured to boot from the hard drive rather than the CD. When your computer is booting it should give a message like "Press F8 for BIOS" or whatever key it uses. Sometimes its Esc or Delete keys. Once your in the BIOS you'll want to change the first boot device to your CD Drive and the second boot device as your hard drive.
You've burned your CD correctly, as long as its not one big ISO file, you've done it right.

Rather try downloading the actual ISO instead of using bittorrent. If it doesn't work then, try emailing the opensuse guys?
