Tried to install kde 3.2 using YaST, and it dicides not to work
 

ok, i downloaded all of the SuSE KDE 3.2 rpms for my processor. now, all of sudden, YaST came up, and when it started to install the package, it would close. also it would not show any conflicts. I logged in as root, and now the YaST startup thing comes up, and then closes! what the hell? im getting very annoyed. please help me

also, I have restarted my computer.... this has NEVER happened before... btw, how do i get YaST to install all of the RPMs at the same time? or shall i individually install 60 packages?

ok... i deleted the Source of installation that i had pointing to the KDE RPM dir. now YaST does come up, but there is still the whole problem of it not installing or attacking me with conflicts

any help guys?

I'm new to linux. I have SuSE 9.0. I'm not a expert!!!!!!!!!!!. however, I updated to kde 3.2 with yast @ "ftp://ftp.us.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.2/SuSE/ix86/9.0/"

I installed "kdebase" first and told it to ignore all conflicts. I then installed all the others individually ignoring any conflicts. I had to install "kdelib" last because after i installed it, rpm files would no longer associate with yast. After reboot, I then went into "yast install software" and it showed some conflicts. I told it to delete the old version of "kdebase". I logout and back in and everything is running great. However!!!!!!!!!!!

Certain file that SuSE put in are gone, or replaced (i.e... SuSEhelp, SuSEgreeter). SuSEhelp is replaced with kde help. More importantly, rpm files do not associate with yast anymore (when you click on a rpm file to download it doesn't automaticly start installing thru yast) and I have yet figured out how to get it to. Nor can I go into yast install software and get it to install anything I've downloaded on the HD.

I updated to kde3.2 just a couple of days ago and it was well worth it. Since I'm new to linux I don't know how to install anything without going thru yast and I've been trying for the last couple of days to figure out how to fix this with no success yet!

I would also like to be able to view the SuSehelp files but I could live without it if I have to. The SuSEgreeter was nothing more the hyperlinks to web sites.

i am also a linux noob. but i have upgraded from kde 3.1.4 to 3.1.5 so i fuqure it should be no different. all other RPMS install, but not KDE

and it is not a matter of file assosiations because other RPMs install.

umm.. okay, is there anyway to reset all of my changes in the YaST installer?

If you are asking about just the files you downloaded all you have to do is search in YaST installer for the file you updated and it will show available version "which is the version on you SuSE cd's. Tell it to update, and it will install the original version.
