Unhappy Too Slow StartUp [Gentoo]

I have a gentoo 2004.3 system and when the system boots up
When it starts the udev service

It shows like:
Starting udev..
Populating /dev with device nodes..

and this hangs the system about 5-6 minuts then only proceeding to
other services.

I have an athlon2000+ system with 256 MB ram and running kernel-2.6.14

i tried a diffrent kernel- with devfs it has no problem

Is there is any configuration problems with udev or kernel ?????
please help me!!!!

If you think it is a udev problem try setting RC_DEVICE_TARBALL="no" in /etc/conf.d/rc
Please note, you will lose all custom devices after reboot.
