Too slow RAID 0 array in SUSE linux 10.1

I have RAID 0 array in SUSE linux 10.1.
The raid device has the following information:
Raid Device : /dev/md1
Devices : /dev/hda2 /dev/hdd2
Chunk : 32
Level : raid0
120 Gb., Ext3 filesystem.
The devices are :
/dev/hda WD 80 Gb, 7200 RPM, 8 MB cache, ATA 133
/dev/hdd SAMSUNG 80 Gb, 7200 RPM, 2 MB cache, ATA 133

The problem is that the RAID device has too slow performance. Too slow for such raid array. I copy a file 700 Mb from one directory to another directory for around 50 sec. On one device i make this copy for 55 sec.It is too slow for raid array level 0 in 2 fast hard drives. I noticed that when make an array with chunk=64 the device goes too slow. When the chunk is 32 has almost good result.i tried with chunk=4 but the results was poor too. Now the array is made with chunk=32 but the result is poor performance.

I don't understand where is the problem. I have another array in the same devices but it is only 20 Gb. It works fine. I make a copy of the 700 Mb file for 34 sec.I have only 385 Mb of RAM and 1.6 GHz processor, so 34 sec for 700 Mb file copying is enough.

Any ideas how to solve this situation? How to make fast my raid array?

Post the outputs of:
Code:
# hdparm -tT /dev/hda2
# hdparm -tT /dev/hdd2
Be sure to run each command several times and pick a representative output to post.

You should also check that your DMA is set correctly on the two drives:
Code:
# hdparm -I /dev/hda2
# hdparm -I /dev/hdd2
