I want to know why does the system jump from 1420 to 7082 then 14734. Thnx

It's just an assigned PID. Most of the time anything that starts is assigned a new PID in numerical order. In your case, a process was started and then either died or finished, etc. Simply running ps -aux will create a new PID for that one instance and then most likely go away after the command is complete, thus creating the next PID for the next command or process..

For example, you run ps -ax to see your processes and you see it as the last listed PID of say:

15055 ? Ss 0:00 ps -ax

If you ran that same command right after that one completed, it could very well look like this with a new PID, the next one in order:

15056 ? Ss 0:00 ps -ax

my question was why does alot of processes run and die in between 1420 and 7082 and 14734?

do they belong to khubd and kjournald?

Could be anything that was started or run and completed. Like I said before, running a command as simple as 'ls' to list files in a directory will create a process, assign a PID for it and then it's done.

If you really want to test this, reboot your computer and upon login, check your PID's. You'll probably notice all of them have low numbers to start off with. Then start issuing commands and then taking a look at the ps -ax output, you'll noticed your commands are issued a PID but are no longer listed in the output since they completed.

My question would be, why are you worrying about something so trivial? This is totally normal behaviour.

Well, you can avoid such things if you stop using your machine and let everything sit idle then without running anything on your system except the core components for it to run properly....
