Talking TNT2 Nvidia Solution

Hey... Found a Fix to a problem that was hounding me... thought I'd pass it on...

I have a K6II 450 with an Gigabyte mother board (ALi Chipset) When I was using RH 7.0, I had no problems at all with the Nvidia drivers... they worked great... Upgraded to RH 7.2 and customized my kernel, downloaded the Nvidia drivers for my custom kernel and bam... it'd lock up everytime I tried to use the new drivers... Okay.. I went through and tried every fix in the book... latest kernel... recompiled.. latest drivers from Nvidia (src) no luck...

Finally after greuling hours of hit and miss attempts to fix the problem, I tried putting:
Option "NvAGP" "0"

Under the drivers section of the XF86Config-4 file...

Hey.. IT WORKS!!!! I have 3D now! Chromium B.S.U. is totally cool!

Anyway.. thought I'd pass on the fix if anyone else has the problem too...

Cool, mind sharing the advantages of customizing the kernel as apposed to leaving it alone?

Cool custom kernels

Well... I usually customize my kernel for serveral reasons... First... I have an AMD processor... the kernel comes default (at least in the RH versions I've used) set up for Pentiums, PIIs, etc... so, I reset it for the K6II that I have...

Then I take out anything that isn't necessary that is put in there... like drivers for every network card that I don't have (I leave the one for my card in there)... I make sure support for SCSI emulation(cdrom) is turned on and support for firewalling (IPchains and the like) are on... Makes for a clean and lean kernel... frees up memorey and optimizes the system... You may or may not ever see a difference, but I always recompile my kernel...

kewl...
If you are using redhat... go to their site and in the manuals sections, go to the customization guide. In the customization guide, they have a section about upgrading the kernel through the newest rpm, but they also have and Appendix at the end of the guide that tells you how to recompile your own kernel.. step by step... It is a little more specific to redhat than the how-to's are.

Thumbs up Where exactly was that?

When I went to their site to look for where you mentioned I thought I was following the "Directions" you gave but only saw the following list.

Is where you were talking about listed there or do you maybe have the correct link to where you were refering to?

Thanks
