Thinking of setting up MythTV, need some advice

I have looked a little bit into setting up MythTV for my Slackware 9.1 machine at home. I have yet to buy the tv tuner card because I wanted to see if I could get some advice on the difficulty of setting it all up. The card that I am thinking of going with is the HAUPPAUGE WINTV-GO PCI TV TUNER. It looks to be well supported as far as I can tell (using bttv drivers).

First I was wondering how hard it will be to get the device installed and running using an app like xawtv? I have had problems in the past installing new hardware on an exisiting system. Has anyone had any luck grabbing a new tv tuner (or anything of the sort) and getting the device settings up and running on an exisiting install? I have never had to dabble with creating devices (ex: /dev/video) and dont know how difficult it can be.

Second has anyone dabbled with MythTV setup and would like to give any advice?

Any help on either topic or any opinions would be very much appreciated Thanks in advance for any posts!

hey I am just diving nose deep into this now, I just got the houppage winTVGO and amd having trouble loading the bttv module (hence my presence on this site). Then I will be installing mythtv. I'll let you know how it goes. right now I get the following errors when I try to load the bttv driver:

/lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo/v4l2/bttv.o: /lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo/v4l2/bttv.o: unresolved symbol i2c_bit_del_bus
/lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo/v4l2/bttv.o: /lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo/v4l2/bttv.o: unresolved symbol i2c_bit_add_bus
/lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo/v4l2/bttv.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo/v4l2/bttv.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.25-gentoo/v4l2/bttv.o: insmod bttv failed

working on it now :P

i2c_bit_add_bus ivtv mythtv problem

Hey,

Sorry if this is too late, but hopefully google will pick this up.

I just got through with the major, major BS with ivtv. The module would
build, but not load due to issues with me not having i2c built into my
kernel.

This post saved the day and told me to get i2c->algorithms->bit-banging:
