The ufsdump command

I found the 'ufsdump' command on Solaris systems.

This ufsdump backs up all files specified by files_to_dump (normally either a whole file system or files within a file system changed after a certain date) to magnetic tape,
diskette, or disk file.

Is it only for Solaris? I am used to back up my files just using a CD burner program. I do this from time to time. You could just do some incremental back up.

My question is on the 'ufsdump' command. Is it reserved for Solaris?

I have Mandrake Linux 10.0 version.

xfsdump appears to do the same thing.

Since Solaris used the UFS filesystem, xfsdump backs up the X filesystem.

Do you have the xfsdump on your system? If you have it, what is your distribution?

I have Mandrake 10.0 version.

I just wrote 'man xfsdump' and the answer was no manual entry for 'ufsdump'.

I am on Gentoo, a program made for the UFS cannot handle the x filesystem. You have to install xfsdump, it doesn't come pre-packaged. It is in the gentoo portage, I don't know where you would look for it in Mandrake if `urpmq xfsdump` returns nothing.
