The perfect 18th birthday present: Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2
For those of you who have no idea, the original plan for Ubuntu 11.04 was to have only one beta release, but that has changed and there is now a Beta 1 and Beta 2. The Beta 1 has been scheduled for the time the original Beta was scheduled for, and Beta 2 has been scheduled for 20110414. For those of you who have seen my profile, that falls on the day I turn 18! (Just wanted to add my 2˘ here). However, I plan to be humble about it. Guys (and girls), what would you do if a Linux distro version (alpha, beta, or final) was released on your birthday?

I was 18 once - in fact I've been 18 nearly 3 times now.
Having had so many birthdays I was sure there must have been Linux releases on some of them. On doing a Google search for Linux and release date with my birthday I found 11 pages of hits. The first 3 had releases done on my birthday in 2009, 2008 and 2007. I didn't bother looking at the rest.
My current distro Mint-9-gnome (Isadora) was my special birthday gift (May 18th ) when I turned 23 last year .
I also keep this distro as a memory as it's the longest running Linux with me so far, no *major crash, no reinstall, though It's soon going to be replaced by LMDE10 .
I'm pretty sure I was thinking of the amount of beer I was legally allowed to consume on my 18th Birthday and not Linux.
By the time I hit 18 I had finished with beer and then wine (Mad Dog) and moved on to hard liquor. One of the benefits to hitting 6 feet around age 15 was I could usually buy alcohol without being carded. In fact the only time someone asked me for ID back in those days I bluffed having forgotten it well enough that he still sold to me. Of course nowadays with alcohol control authorities being so strict and sending in underage moles to try it people are apt to card you even if you look my current age.

Most areas here now require everyone to show ID. No matter how old you look. I don't mind and believe it keeps everyone honest. No fake ID! You must have a valid ID or Driver License to purchase alcohol or tobacco. They now scan the ID. If you don't have one then sorry. The merchants have been stung to many times and want to keep their license to sell.

I cannot see the reasoning for a release date & one's birthday but I guess some people need to have something to look forward too.

Well it's a good thing they don't require an ID to vote! (Because that's what I also am greatly looking forward to, *not* purchasing ANY harmful drugs like that )
Kenny, you need to get out of the house more often. You ought to wish for better things like world peace or a date with a hot babe! (no sex or anything like that, just a date)
I have been 18 three times. Usually I am 12 going on 13.
