Linux has (in a way) a base of dos type subsystem.

To be sure there are some ways to get a floppy by an easy way. The answer gets real complex however. You can get older specialty floppies ready to try.

http://www.toms.net/rb/ if you can still find a working mirror may be the most easy.

There are a lot of older floppy distro's. Might look at distrowatch.com for more floppy based.

Some distro's still have some floppies. You can't get a single floppy anymore for modern linux.

I have some floppys and a way to download the file, I was going to ask if it had a dos in the days of 8068 but then I remembered that Linux came after (I don't know if I can say it's name... I have seen it demented before) U*ix and Un*x came way after 8068. I am having problems in a sense though... I accsedentaly deleted hal.dll in win and need a NTFS link for offline Linux and I got it... I also have to go through (literally) five bootloaders and managers to even get to the place that utilizes boot.ini and it is starting to get irritating.

In /etc/inittab, change the line:

Code:
id:5:initdefault:
to:

Code:
id:3:initdefault:
. Also, if you are running a GUI, there are still terminals running and you can get to them using Ctrl+Alt+F?, whare F? is one of the F keys.

I'm not sure what you mean. Why do you need a floppy?

So if I accsedentaly delete something again... Also windows doesn't let you get to MSDOS any other way... Command prompt with Command.com running isn't the same... Its the Ultamit fail workaround... If you have a laptop or a mildly new computer this might not apply... MS DOS comes with every copy of windows it is extremely watered down but if you have a disk it helps greatly if you delet oh something like Hal.dll it won't let you even get to your windows manager. Also keeping a separate os handy is fun! And I just bought 100 floppies for no apparent reason and want to use them. The purpose of MS DOS comming with windows has, Sinse XP, been defeated by NTFS.

Linux is not Windows (or DOS).

The command line in modern Linux distros with GUIs it not "watered down" in any way. It's not less powerful than the command line in older Linux distros without GUIs, in fact it keeps getting new features. Unlike in Widnows, it is seen as another interface that's better in its own way for some uses, instead of as an old relic that must be hidden from the user.
