If you don't like apt, you could try aptitude or a GTK GUI front end to apt called Synaptic.

Workstation

There have been a LOT of good suggestions for Workstation distributions. Not all comes with Cinnamon by default (very FEW do) but it is possible to add to ANY of them. Some easier than others.

If the deciding factor is Cinnamon as teh default, you are narrowing the field considerably.
Searching on Distrowatch using this link : http://distrowatch.com/search.php?desktop=Cinnamon
will give you about 18 choices. Of those any of the first ten, and a couple of the remaining eight, are suitable options.

Note that some of these come in several 'flavors' and you must download the Cinnamon version. Others (like Arch) require you to follow a manual install procedure, then add the desktop of your choice: these require research using google or on the maintainers site and following instructions. The result is, however, worth the work.

Personally, I prefer a lean, mean, fast, and traditional CDE based environment. I am currently running Arch with KDE-Plasma. I arrived here from VSIDO, and had moved from the default to KDE-Plasma, but kept Fluxbox as a fallback. You have as many options as you have the will to pursue!

I note that Fedora has just released a new version, and you can spin a Cinnamon install easily. Ano option like this does almost all of the work FOR you!

I suggest you make a choice and give it a try.

A distro like Fedora goes completely against his requirement for a stable and reliable system.
