telnet - banner but no login?

Using Suse 7.2

I am connecting over a LAN in the home to my Linux Box.

Telnet was working previously but today if I run:

telnet 192.168.0.123

I get a banner saying I am connected. However I cannot do anything. I don't get prompted to enter a username or password.

Have tried rebooting entrie system. Any ideas?

Logging in at the console of 192.168.0.123 can you see the process running. Could this be a router?
