tar error

Every time I run tar command " tar -cvf /dev/tape file" , then it will pop up the error "tar: Removing leading `/' from member names", how to stop this message , cos it confuse the standard output. ( I tried -P to leave the "/" , but i really want to remove the "/" for the backup ? thx.

You can use:

# tar cvf /dev/tape file 2> /dev/null

but you will not see other "error" messages too ...
