Tar Backup Problem

I have a backup running on my server, it has been running fine for 6 months, nothing has changed, but every night now it exits at about 3GB with the following error:

tar (child): /dev/st0: Wrote only 0 of 10240 bytes|tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I have replaced the SCSI card and SCSI cable as a test, but the error continues. Could someone please help?
