tar backup maximum 2gb only per tape

Hi,

I could take only 2gb maxmimum on a tape using tar. I am using FC3 on proliant 1600 Server and tape device recognized has under:

Vendor: ARCHIVE
Model: Python 02635-XXX
Rev: 596A
Type: Sequential-Access
ANSI SCSI revision: 02

But actually the tape device capacity is 12/24GB.

Can anyone let me know how to configure so that I can take maximum 12GB. I am using tar command line backup.

thanks in advance

tsaravan

Most likely your kernel does not support a larger filesystem. Recompile your kernel to support this.

There should be but it's not necessary. You probably have the kernel source already installed, you can recompile your current kernel to get the larger filesystem support that you need.

Hi

I am not able to find source rpm in the system. Please let me any how to proceed further. However I would like to know whether the driver could be a problem as it has taken compatible drive as 'ARCHIVE' and model as pythone-02635-xxx.

regards

The tape drive would not be limited by filesize, it would be the kernel. If you don't have the source installed, either install it that matches your running kernel now or upgrade the kernel.
