System hardware names


Hey guys,

How do i find out the hardware location of my sound card for use with vmware? /dev/dsp which is default dosnt work, Ive looked in /dev but theres too many things in there to tell.

a quick scan on google suggests that vmware doesn't yet supposrt alsa natively, and i'd assume that you are using alsa. by loading the oss compatability modules you will get a /dev/dsp or similar that vmware can pick up. just try a "modprobe snd_pcm_oss"

Hi, thanks i am using ALSA, i loaded in the snd_pcm_oss module, but now vmware saysdevice or resource busy. Any ideas?

i would think you'd need to use somethign like the dmix plugin in alsa to allow multiple inputs.
