System hanged immediately after installation of Fedora 9
I have been using Fedora 9 at my home.Today I tried to install it at my workplace with WindowsXP which is also the case at my home. But immediately after successful installation when I tried to reboot the system which it was asking for first time configuration, it became hanged after few steps when the blue screen of fedora was executing. I then tried to again reboot it, but again it stopped at the same place. But this time as I saw the 'details' I found that it is stopping immediately after configuring IPv6 and iptable/firewall. I could not fathom out the problem. Now I am scared whether I have to reinstall it which takes quite a bit of time. Is it a problem of enabling IPv6? I can not remember whether I have enabled it during installation since I was in a little bit hurry at that time. Please suggest me a easy way out and also suggest what could be the problem.

You could boot in single user mode then disable iptables, it may be iptables or the next daemon in the start order thats causing problems
I dont see any reason for a reinstall other than moving to Fed 11
Please tell me how to do that. Shall I boot using the installation disc since it is not booting by itself ? Shall I also have to disable IPv6 and how to do that?

I didn't know that it is unsupported. Anyway, immediately I am not going to change it until I get hold of Fedora 10/11. Also I was thinking of switching over to Ubuntu 9.04 since it is having lot of good reviews nowadays.
Let's come back to my original problem. I still could not solve it. I have boot it up as a single user mode. But ultimately I have understood that it is not due to IPv6 or iptable problem because during booting it has passed the "Ipv6 : setting firewall rules " & iptable:setting firewall rules". Where it is hanging is while doing "loading i8K modules".
Now please suggest me how to solve it.

My problem is still not solved.
I tried adding the line
Code:
Code:
modprobe i8k force=1
in /etc/profile and also in rc.local after entering as single user mode but with no avail. Even I have reinstalled it. But again after finishing installation and customary congratulation when it asked me to reboot it, it got hanged at the same place,i.e., while "loading i8k kernel module". I don't know what is the problem since two other of my machines are running with fedora 9 installed from the same disk. Is there any package, avoiding which during installation, can solve this problem? Please help.

Well, as was said in an earlier post, FC9 is unsupported. Re-installing it won't do much good.
Try installing the latest Fedora 11. Since more hardware us supported now, this may solve your problem. If not, you will be in a current, supported configuration, and have a better chance of getting things to work.
Thanks. Yes, I know that having an FC11 disk would have been a great help. But right now I don't have it and presently I don't have time to download it immediately since it is a huge one.
But, anyway, I am still wondering how come the same FC9 is working great in two of my computers with almost the same configuration? Where lies the actual problem?

Probably in the "almost the same configuration". Unless they're identical, down to patch levels, hardware, etc., you'll get different results.
That's fine. But still no solution has come out. Actually, I wanted to know what could be the problems and what are the possible solutions for those, even the distribution is unsupported. In fact, if it is so machine dependent (so sensitive to the term "almost"), then the distribution lost its tag of universality.
Thanks a lot for your answer and suggestions.
