Hey all,

Twice my system has locked up in the past few days, and I'm not sure where I should start to look for problems.

I am running a hard-drive install of kanotix (debian), with kernel 2.6.6, and using Xfce. I believe both freezes occured using Firefox (although the first time may have occurred in Opera). The screen freezes but the mouse cursor still moves. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't reset X, and I have to do a hard-reboot.

Where should I begin looking for problems? I checked /var/log/messages and /var/log/XFree86.0.log, but I'm not even sure what to be looking for.

Any ideas?

Check your XFree86 logs or X logs... and if it freezes on a particular application in use each time, that might help narrow it down. If the last time it froze was using Firefox, try using Mozilla to see if it does the same thing after some time.. etc.
