System Clock Running Fast

Over the past week or so I've noticed that my system clock has started to run fast. After some experimentation I've determined that it gains about 20 seconds every hour. I've half-remedied the problem with NTP, however since NTP doesn't update very often I'm still gaining time. I'd also like to fix this up in case I ever don't have a network connection. I've never had this problem before, and haven't has any problems with this system either. I recently upgraded from kernel 2.6.9 to kernel 2.6.11, but have yet to turn anything up there that might cause it. I would really appreciate any help I could get.

Setup a cron job to query a ntp server every hour or so to keep it updated..

ntpdate <ip-address-of-ntp-server>

That's all well and good, but I'd still like to fix the acutal problem. I may or may not have net all summer and would like to fix it up. Right now I'm seeing if it still does it under the old 2.6.9, and if not I'll try re-compiling 2.6.11
