I have an error showing up, not shure exactly what I did to start it complaining.

on boot up logs .....
sysctl: error: permission denied on key 'vm.freepages'

.......

everything else in the sysctl.conf is loading ok except vm.freepages.

I would like to also know what effect it will have on the system. I believe it has something to do with controlling memory for networking.

Using RedHat 7.1 with about everything installed. I am using the enterprise kernal.

Everything seems to be working.

I'm using squid on port 3128 routed from dansguardian which is redirected TCP and UDP to port 1080 using ipchains. Also named, ipchains redirect and masq, dhcpd, some firewall rules, many services removed for security.

I did remove sendmail from tksysv which removed my routes, but it is back in now, and restored routes.

I have changed my host name on eth0 and added another hostname to eth1 since installing.

Any suggestions on what to remove and reinstall would help.

Thanks

I don't know either, but there's /usr/src/linux/Documentation/(kernel/)sysctl.txt which could have info. I know in kernel2.4x this key sposed to be read-only tho.
