Synaptic asks for password though it's saved

My Synaptic (0.57.8) asks for the root password even though I told it to start saving the password. Why would it? And can I do anything about it?

When you "save the password", it gets stored in the gnome-keyring.

Are you being prompted for the keyring password, or is Synaptic prompting you for a super-user password? If it is the latter, see if you can find a GNOME Keyring manager, or something of the like, in the GNOME "Settings" menu (maybe under "Administration").

It's the "administrative" password. That's root, isn't it?

It is. Did you check the Settings > Administration menu?
