Symbolic Link Question

I would like all directories in the root of 3 different drives to appear in a single directory using a symbolic link.

I can do it with three different links with the target showing up as three different directories in the target but I want ALL to show up in the SINGLE target directory.

/home/user/target/Directories.From.ALL.3.DRIVES

not

/home/user/target/1.Drive
/home/user/target/2.Drive
/home/user/target/3.Drive

Thanks

ok. so from what i understand, you want all 3 drives' files/folders to be pooled into one folder, right?

like this?

t -> /asdf
t -> /jkls
t -> /qwerty

if this is the case, it is not possible to do it with symbolic links, since each link can only point to one spot. t can't point to 3 locations

good luck,
rabbit2345 ^_^

Are there many files? You could create a script to create one link per file in each of the 3 destination directories in one source directory.

About 200 directories in the root of the 3 drives. Many other sub directories under those.

You can't do what you want using ordinary links. But you can do it with a Logical Volume Manager.

(See also: Logical Volume Management.)

In essence, what you're trying to do here is to present a "logical view of" your data that is in some way different-from the "physical view of" that same data. This is precisely the sort of thing that LVM is all about...
