I'm Using LILO to boot into WinME, Win98 and Linux (if I could buy all my darn games in Linux I could go all linux). I have my partitions layed out with a 15 Gb Windows partition on my Master drive and a bunch of linux partitions on the remaining 5 Gb. On my Slave drive I have a primary Win98 with an extended filled with a bunch of logical partitions.
The drive with 98 was my original system and I interted then linux/ME drive in front. I I have a bunch of installed programs I would like access to on the 98 drive but since the drive mappings have changed with the insertion of the new drives I cannot easily get to the goods. What I would like to be able to do through LILO (or whatever will work) is to rearrange the partitions that Windows 98 sees when it boots. I know how to do the following: map-drive 0x80 to 0x81 map-drive 0x81 to 0x80 to swap the drives to allow me to boot 98 but it is interting the new primary partition on the Master (linux/ME) drive as drive D: and, in true windows fashion, this is skewing all my extended partitions by one. What I would like to do is redirect the primary partition on my master drive (0x80) to the end of the windows mappings (after the extended drives on the slave are 'lettered'). I know this write up is pretty confusing but I could really help. ANyone have any ideas? |
Never tried it, but lilo is a boot manager, not a partition mutilator (tho experiences vary). When im doin stuff on partitions Id like to use Partition Magic. It may be expensive to buy, but its damn reliable. Never failed me.
I think tho u dont wanna remap partitions each time u boot, it aint a software thing & HD's wherent built for that kinda toyin around. I think u better rethink ure partitioning strategies: HD1-----------|----------HD2 [ME][98][LNX]-|-[__apps____] would be a better division, cuz now all apps reside on one disk, reachable for each OS. If this is too much hassle, Partition Magic will allow u (to some extent) to hide & unhide partitions an OS may see on boot. |
Ill correct myself cuz newer Lilo can hide/unhide/change mapping...
