swap file usage

i've noticed that my swap file has NEVER been used. it's never had any information stored in it, and i don't really understand why. could it be that the monitors i am using are malfunctioning? i am using gkrellm, and a system monitor that comes with gnome... oh, and slackware 8.1 with a seperate partition for the swap.

I don't think mine has been used either, but you should be able to force yours to be used by continuing to load programs until the system is forced into using the swap.

The one reason why I tell people not to make large swap files, cause most of the time your just wasting space.

But I like it when there is no or very few amounts of swap being used.. that's a good sign to me.

FWIW, Currently I'm using 26Meg of swap. That's with 512Meg of RAM.

Sounds like it's time for a bigger PC (any excuse will do...)
