suse 9 pro ,5 cds dosent equal 2 dvds ?

or am i missing something
i dont have a dvd player in the machine i was thinking of buying this for
their website says it comes with 5 cds and a double dvd
does this mean i miss out on some apps if i dont have a dvd player

if someone here has bought the box set maybe ye could explain the if there is a size difference between the dvds and the cds

im assuming the 5 cds are 5 X 700 = 3,500
double dvd could be up to 18 gigs or 9 at a minimum
if the same size 3.5 gigs kinda surprising its not on 1 single sided dvd

also i didnt see a suse forum in the distro section here or did i miss something as im sure ill need help with it

no, the dvd contains everything on the cd's, your not going to miss anything. it just cuts down on disk swaps during the install.

yes but why not fit 3.5 gigs from the cds on to 1 side of a dvd
just seems strange

don't know, don't care. i don't work for suse, so i'm in no position to explain why they (gasp!) include a dvd with their cd's.

I have installed from the dvd and didn't have to turn it over during the install. Thinking about it, I have little or no curiousity about side b.

Why not ask SuSE? They did this terrible thing.

the bloke had a point, you put forward an answer, he queried your answer, and you chose not to reply. Just think it's relevant that suse chose to sucker people into thinking they're getting a great deal by chucking in an extra (superfluous) DVD. Perhaps I'm just being a pedant

ok, maybe i missed something. he asked about the size difference, suse 8.2 came with 2 dvds, one contained the setup files and packages, the other the source code. in 9, they apperently combined this on 1 dvd, packages on one side source on the other. just because a dvd "can" hold X amount of data, doesn't mean it does. neither side is completely full. why didn't they cram it all on one dvd? who knows, maybe they got a great deal on double dvds from their supplier.
