SuSE 9.1 Pro and HSP56 WinModem

I'm using SuSE 9.1 Pro, and I have a PcTel HSP56 winmodem. SuSE detects this and sets it up. I can connect to the internet fine, but after a few minutes my computer completely freezes for about 2 mins, after this I can no longer access the internet. I tried downloading the PcTel drivers, but I cannot compile them, and the error message is no use, it gets past finding my kernel version then simply says error. Does anyone know how I can resolve this situation?

Check to see if you have any irq conflicts? less /proc/interrupts
I don't use a modem any more. If I did I would be using an external modem.

Try passing pci=noacpi on bootup. ie. are you using lilo? if so, "append pci=noacpi"

I tried that, but it still hasn't stopped it from happening. Anyone else have any ideas? or can anyone recommend a good, but cheap, USB modem I can buy (preferrably online and in the UK)

I've got it all working nicely now, I needed to append acpi=off rather than pci=noacpi.
