SuSe 9.1 Personal tells me linux kernel 2.6.x doesnt support RAID

Software RAID that is. It also says that 2.4.x DOES support software RAID. Its able to detect my SATA hard drives, but is unable to see the RAID array. Therefore, it says that I'll have to format my drives to be able to install SuSe on them. I'm using the VIA 8237 RAID controller thats built into my motherboard. My motherboard is the MSI K8T Neo FIS2R.

I was wondering if theres a fix or something for the kernel, or some work-around, so I dont have to format my drives.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thats what I would think to, but the error message says that its software RAID. It even goes as far as to say something like

"Even though this RAID controller is sold as RAID, it is, in fact, software RAID. As a result blah blah.."

Something like that. Its able to use my Serial ATA controller, which is built into the same south bridge, just fine. (meaning, it also is VIA 8237).

I did a little googling and found a message someone left on this page who suggests using the VIA82CXX IDE drivers instead.
