System Specs:
AMD Athlon 64-bit 3000+
1 gig memory
80 gig hd

I am currently running Suse 8.2 pro and it is running unusually slow. I just installed Suse on this machine, and other distros have worked fine on this machine. Anyways, I am installing Samba and it took it about 15-30 minutes to just ./configure, and it is currently compiling the source with "make" and it is going on 3 hours.

When looking at top, it says that top itself is taking up about 34% of the CPU, and that cc1 is another 40%. The memory looks fine though.

Any suggestions?

didn't exist when
suse 8.2 was created
one would assume the same for the motherboard for that platform ???

tuff (impossible) to support hardware that hasn't been invented yet

beyond that it might be some bios setting
or misconfigured network settings
