Suse 10.3 stops boot at grub>

Does anyone know of a good site that explains grub, how it works and all the associated files and their configurations? I've been looking but keep finding only bits and pieces.
I've currently got a Suse 10.3 system that halts boot at the grub> prompt and I have to enter the following:
Quote:

root=(hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz
initrd /boot/initrd
boot
at which point it boots quite happily. I have to the best of my knowledge edited the correct files with the correct information but I'm apparently still missing something.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

that went End of life back in " October 31st 2009"

did you check the old suse docs

https://en.opensuse.org/GRUB

https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:All_about_GRUB

the software site

Have you tried reading the Grub Legacy Manual?

Difficult for anyone here to make recommendations on that since you haven't posted the menu.lst file.
Is 10.3 the only OS on the computer?

Thanks to everyone who helped. I found the most useful documentation for me at
