Suse 10.0/GNOME Sound Error

Hi there, first post here but I've read many an answer before on here so thanks for being so helpful.

OK, I'm in Suse 10.0, GNOME and I'm getting an odd sound error. First of all I was getting no sound so I went into alsamixer (and then Envy24 Control after installing it) and put the faders up.

So now I'm getting sound and it's mostly alright (you can tell what you're listening to) but I'm getting strange popping sounds and what could be cutouts continually when playing back mp3s or wavs. It doesn't seem to affect the fanfare played in the Yast test module.

It doesn't sound like anything like digital clipping and the only thing I can think of is some kind of internal clock issue in the soundcard causing dropouts or something.

I'm using RealPlayer 10, which could be the problem, because I can't seem to get anything else to work properly (have installed xmms but it's going at double speed and pitch). My soundcard is a Terratec DMX6Fire and I'm on the ICE 1712 drivers.

Thanks for any help...
