sudo: unable to lookup via gethostbyname()

Debian Sid
2.4.21
Gnome 2.4

Everytime I log in w/ gdm I get this:
Code:
Could not look up internet address for .
This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly.
It may be possible to correct the problem by adding
to the file /etc/hosts.
I didn't misspell or omit anything from the above error. It seems to be an incomplete error message??
I can log in and everything seems to work. sudo get's me this:
sudo: unable to lookup via gethostbyname()

Ive tried:

/etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 cromag.localdomain cromag
etc/hostname
127.0.0.1 cromag.localdomain cromag

I added another user just for yucks & grins and he had the same problem. Still no luck. The posts I have seen relating to this are usually Redhat related. Any ideas would be appreciated. TIA

/etc/HOSTNAME should only have cromag.localdomain (no ip address).

Thanks spurious for the reply but still no go. The error changed slightly:
sudo: unable to lookup cromag.localdomain via gethostbyname()

Still the same on login. Currently I'm reading through man gethostbyname but not making alot of sense out of it just yet.
