Unhappy su wont work, cant "su root" as a normal user

//lukeorun@luke:~$ su root
//Password:
//su: Authentication failure
//Sorry.

i used to be ably to do this when i ssh:a to my computer but now it wont work.

i did a huge misstake a couple of days ago, and change ownerships of some files when i was root, after that the normal user cant use the command "su"

http://packages.debian.org/stable/admin/sudo.html
load that
then to run command as root either add yourself to /etc/sudoers or type:

sudo commandtorunasroot
