[solved]su: permission denied

Hi all, I've got al little problem;
when I try to switch to root with the su command I get 'permission denied' after typing the root password. But I am certain that I got my root password right.
What could be wrong ?

Thanks

You may have it set up so only members of a certain group can su. If so, you'll need to be a member of that group.

The permissions on the /bin/su file are: -rws--x--x, so I should be able to execute it, shouldn't I ?

I thought the problem might be the 's' for the user's execute permission, which I don't really understand, so I tried replacing it with the normal 'x' but I still get the same thing.

[EDIT] ok I know the meaning of the 's' now and I understand that it has to be there, but I have no idea why I can't su to root.
