su gives bash error

When I su to root I get:

-bash: y: command not found

after I type in the password. It works fine and I do become root but what is the problem here?

Things are not going well today for me. I'm coming apart.

check /root/.bash_profile or/and /root/.bashrc files
probably the 'not found' command is over there

i bet you have some messed up macro or
configuration line in root's directory.
look for the letter y in .bash_profile, .bashrc, and .bash_login
and see if you think any of those are the problem.

I bet your both right. You think that the fact that I was editing my /etc/profile file right before this happened would have sent up a flag in my head. Thanks.
