I've a streamzap remote control (working within KDE with LIRC) but because I'm not sure of how (and when) it is loaded, when I use a different windows manager it no longer initialises.
I'm sure this is a matter of moving (copying) a config file to another directory which the new windows manager uses but I cant figure it out.
Anyone had any experience with this or can offer some advice.
Got the same remote, generally lircd is the daemon that lets you use it but that should be started on boot or when you enter init 5 depending on your setup, but neither of those would be effected by your window manager :/
What distro are you using? You should put that in your profile, it makes answering your questions a lot easier.
I'll have to update my profile sorry, I use FC4. If it is started up when you enter 'init 5' then we may have located the problem.
I use KDE as a desktop/windows manager, but I'm using the media program 'freevo' which has it's own windows manager and to start into it I had to set my init=3 so on bootup the computer didnt load into GDM, allowing me to start freevo windows manager from console/command
I'm not very familiar with Fedora but you could try some of these commands and piece together a solution yourself.
Code:
# should show you what state lirc is set to for each run level
chkconfig --list | grep lirc
# add lirc to runlevel 3
chkconfig --level 3 <lircd> on
For that last one, it sould be called lirc, lircd, rc.lircd or any weird combination similar to the above, the first command should give you the correct name
