hii ,
i need help with streaming wmv video over a mms:// mrl with xine .
but when i try to stream the file xine say :
Quote:

there is no plugin available to handle : 'mms://XXXXXXXXXXXXX.wmv'
maybe mrl syntax is wrong or file/stream source doesn't exit
when i click more i get what you see in attachment .

but xine works fine with locally (on my computer) wmv's .

It could be a wmv version problem. Wmv has historically been a moving target.

I would suggest trying it with VLC. If it won't play in VLC, it's not likely to play in Xine.

VLC should be in your repos, if your distro has repos.

i've tried with vlc and it "worked" ,
the problem is i tried to stream it with xine cause with vlc i wasn't able to speed up the playback i.e 1.x times .
plus in vlc i had to change the mrl from mms:// to rtsp://

It sounds like a codec problem with xine. Historically, Microsoft has kept messing with the Windows media format to try to keep persons locked into WinMedia.

I used to use Xine regularly; I like the minimalist interface. Codec issues gradually moved me towards Totem. Now I sort of default to VLC because it plays almost everything except real formats.

MPlayer is pretty good with wmv files; you could give it a whirl.
