Strange error reffering partition table and swap

Since I moved from the official Red Hat kernel to the vanilla 2.4.21 patched with Con Kilivas' Kernel Patch I get this strange errors:

When starting up the computer.

Code:

ldm_validate_partition_table(): Disk read failed
When shutting down:

Code:

Turning off Swap: Spurious ### IRQ7
In this last error in the ### part gives a number (I could not record it) and after this message, the system halts during shut down. Hard reboot, power off via computer's front pannel button required.

What do these errors mean?

Note. the first one was present without having applied the patch, the latter I guess was caused by the patch. Is there any solution, should I regenerate (at the risk of losing my system) the partition table via fdisk?

Thanks in advance.

PS: I did not know where to put this thread, that is why it is in the Linux General forum.
