stopping programs running when linux starts

For some reason when I start up Linux, XMMS and Konquer open right away. How can I prevent this?

Hi i'm a newbie and i haven't yet tried MDK 9, but i used to have a similar kinda problem with my Redhat box, just close all the programs and logout,when the logout message box appears set the save session checkbox and logout, it worked for me, hope it does for u
