still new to linux, using redhat


hi guys.. i've posted before but since those posts, i've redid my system... now what i have is redhat 7.1 and its on the internet finally. but! i'm going to be using this thing to run a bot program for mirc. what i don't know is how to use redhat much at all... i need to run samba to join it to windows lan, but i dont' know how to install anything i've tried to download. it asks me what to open with and i don't know??? this probably seems very vauge, but can anyone help me?

if you downloaded..
a) .rpm file - install it using "rpm -ivh <filename>"
b) source file (.tar.gz/.tar.bz2): unpack it, read the README, and proceed accordingly

both the above are done in a terminal
