Startup Services

Does anyone know what services that startup I can drop off? I run mdk 8.0, and there are many services that feel they need to intrude on my memory.

I have shutdown telnet, NFS, and a few others, but can I lose xintd, cron, and anything else? I run a workstation, so I dont need server requirements.

it depends on what use you have, do you wish to have some sort of protection, if so then xinetd is not a good one to close.

u can shutdown nfs -based if you are on your own but it all depends again on what you intend to do with your linux machine

if you quote what your uses are then we can help a bit more

thanks

I know it all depends on what I run, but lets assume that I have a distro isntalled. What services are norally activated at boot up that I may not need to run if it is only a workstation. Like, are there any server specific things I dont need to run?
