startup images?


I noticed in fedora and suse that when they are booting up that they have a sort of image or window or something (not sure what to call it) there that hides all of the system text. What exactly is this and how is it done?

Im actually trying to figure this out too. I use mandrake and I would like to change the boot screen.

I have found one thing called bootsplash which patches the kernel.
