"Starting PCMCIA" hang...

I recently tried installing multiple OS and had the same problem with each of them. Everytime after installation, I get up to the point where the kernel loads the PCMCIA module and it hangs. I read around on this forum and tried some things but haven't been able to fix it. The only way I can get the OS's to boot is through the use of Interactive Mode and skipping this module. Now, I have an 802.11b wireless network card that I would like to use. How can I get the kernel to load this module correctly at boot (without hanging) so that I can use my 802.11b wireless card? Thanks guys...

Observation from my own laptop....

If it was timing out from waiting for a network connection from the NIC wouldn't it time out on the "setting up network interface eth0" (or whatever) rather than on the PCMCIA line?

At least that's how it worked on mine...

khermans...

You're on the right track booting interactively...

Once you're in as root, try starting pcmcia from the command line in /etc/init.d and see what errors you get. (post them)

Even when I don't have the wireless card in the PCMCIA slot the OS still refuses to boot and hangs at this module. I am not near that computer right now, but I will try starting the service and seeing what happens as root and post the output when I get home. How do I run the PCMCIA service only as root? What command? I am still fairly new to linux...

Ok, so i started the PCMCIA service as root from the /etc/init.d directory with "./pcmcia start". The OS then proceeds to lock up. I have to reboot. Before executing this command, "./pcmcia status" returned "cardmgr is stopped". Any ideas?
