start X remotely

Hi

I need to login to a remote machine which is running gdm.

I´m using Cygwin to open a remote X session to this machine, the X server seems to respong but a grey screen with the "X" cursor is shown but gnome won´t start...

Do you have any ideas about why gnome doesn´t start a new session?

Thanks in advance
Regards

I think using XDMCP remotely is not allowed anymore because of security. If you just need to run X apps and don't need the desktop environment thing, you should use SSH with X forwarding. If you need all the desktop environment stuff, you should consider VNC or NX.
