in kde, it's just a matter of creating a little startup script(s) in ~/.kde/Autostart. ...not 100% sure with gnome... perhaps googlin for "autostart for gnome" will provide what you need

cheers

better yet.....

Programs that you wish to autostart on GNOME startup can be selected by with the Control Center. Navigate to Sessions, then Startup Programs. Click Add, and either type the path or use Browse to select your desired program[s]. If multiple programs are selected, they can be launched in a desired order.

If the GUI is not available or desireable, then you can instead modify
~/.gnome2/session-manual.
Syntax as is follows:
Code:
[Default]
num_clients=1
0,RestartClientHint=3
0,Priority=50
0,RestartCommand=gdesklets
0,Program=gdesklets

Thanks for the advice. I should have mentioned that I am not going to have possession of the computers after the initial setup and the person in control of the computer may not be Linux savvy enough. I would like to setup a script that would run for any new user that this person might setup.

Thanks again for the advice.
