Question staircase scheduler patching help

Hello!
Im sorry if this is a foolish question, but I have been unable to find a concrete answer to it.
Im currently using Slackware 10.0 and a custom 2.6.7 kernel with the anticipatory scheduler activated, but now I really want to try the staircase scheduler. I went to http://ck.kolivas.org/patches/2.6/2.6.7/ and downloaded the patch under the '2.6.7-ck1' directory, applied it to my kernel source, but cant find the new option in the xconfig window. I also tried patching with the 'from_2.6.7_to_staircase7.E' file, without success.
I dont know how to correctly patch the kernel source. Should I try upgrading to another kernel (2.6.11 por example) and then aplying the patch? Or am I simply not doing it as I should be done?
Please give me some hint. Thanks in advance.

PS: Please excuse me if there's spelling or gramatical errors.

You should probably use -ck7, that's the latest one.

But regardless, once you apply the patch the staircase scheduler is active, there's no menu option to disable it because it just replaces the current scheduler.

Soooo, thats the reason why I have not seen any menu option!!
Hey, thank you very much for the reply. I will download the file and apply the patch right now. I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks again.

Unhappy just patched

Hi again!
I just patched the kernel source with the -ck7 file and configured the kernel exactly as it was in the custom stable version. The rebooted and checked the messages that fly up when the system boots using dmesg, and found out that it still says 'using anticipatory scheduler' or something! Is this normal when using the staircase scheduler, or it simply didnt work? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

The anticipatory scheduler is for disk I/O, AFAIK the process scheduler doesn't print anything.

Unhappy scheduler

I thought I had patched the kernel source incorrectly because:

Code:
poto$ dmesg |grep scheduler
Using anticipatory io scheduler
poto$
Thank you very much for the replies and the aclaration :)

bye.
