SSH on SLES9
I've just installed SLES9 on an HP proliant, the process was quite painless but I am not able to SSH into the box. Every other time I've done an install SSH has always been there waiting for me so I was some what surprised. I need to do some more checking to see if I've missed something obvious (like is daemon running). I can SSH form the box with out problem. I wondered if anyone else had had this problem or has list of things I should check?
Thanks

To see if sshd is running do "ps aux | grep sshd"
If it's not running, check the log files. They should provide some clues as to why it's not starting. If it is running, perhaps you have a firewall running that's blocking your connections.
Let me know what you find.
Mike

Thanks for the advice the problem was in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. I needed to change the type of authentication that it was using. I used the config file from a SLES8 box as an example. I can't say I've expanded my knowledge but at least it works now. :-)

Can you please post the setting(s) you changed in etc/ssh/sshd_config? We just installed SLES9 sp3 and can no longer SSH to the machine from any windows systems, we can from other linux systems though. Maybe the problem is similar to yours.

Nevermind, I got it, thanks to your post, there was an issue with the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file.
by uncommenting the line
# PasswordAuthentication no
and changing ‘no’ to ‘yes’. This change seems to have fixed the problem.
